BS 350 GTO/ 175 HS Heat Shield Fasteners
« on: January 03, 2020, 09:11:32 PM »
Is there anyone out there that could post pictures of the following parts?

0341 - 0608 Cross Reed Oval Head Screw
09531 - 102 Cross Reed Pan Head Screw
6323 - 8010 Screw Cover Packing A
6324 - 0810 Screw Cover Packing B

These are shown in the parts manual for use on the heat shields.
I would like to actually see what they look like.

Thank you for your assistance.

Happy 2020.

Randy

Happy and successful 2020 to all.
   Hi Randy,
I don't have a photo readily to hand but can give details of the above items as found on the GTO :-

0341     Front shield screw - Countersunk screw with slightly domed head, 6mm dia,  6mm of thread.

09531   Rear shield screw -  Standard cross head screw, 6mm dia as used on engine covers etc, 8mm of thread

6324     Outer cover packing - these are effectively fibre washers stamped from 1mm thick, black, heat resistant
gasket material, 10mm od and sit inside white plastic screw cover under the screw head.
6323     Inner cover packing, as above but with 12mm od to match  base of white screw cover.

Hope this helps, I often wondered what the shield attachment was all about before getting a GTO !     Simple when you see it. Another example of BS attention to detail.
Still don't know why BS didn't use white plastic screw covers on front shield - maybe wouldn't tolerate higher temps.                                                                                                 Brian.
Unspoiled by progress.
I'm so glad I grew up in the 60s & 70s. I did so much stupid stuff and there's no record of it.............Anywhere !!

Thank you Brian.

I have never seen an original high piper with
the original parts. That is why I would like to see
what the original parts look like.

Thanks again.

Randy,
Send me a message at  fleagle14@embarqmail.com and I will send you a couple pictures of an original unrestored gold GTO I had a few years back.

After searching the parts book I believe you are supposed to use 0311 – 0608
for both. Check Parts Price List page 34, 09531 – 102. It subs to 0311 - 0608

I can’t find a 0341 – 0608 in the Parts Price List, only 0311 – 0608.

This is not the first time I have run into something like this.

Not sure why 0341 – 0608 isn't in the parts price list, but here's some pics of 2 original screws that came off my GTO along with the mounting holes for both the front and rear heat shields.

The front (left in pic) clearly takes the oval headed screw, while the back (right in pic) uses the pan head screw. No way they both use the same screw.
