Im not as far away from what was home as you but I miss a certain meat pie from Westhoughton. I have also tried the local Welsh food faggots and peas and lava bread, disgusting.

Unlike you Steve I now call Wales home and not England, when I retire Wales will still be my home.

Steve/Ziggy

Have you tried a 'Pie Floater' - meat pie upside down in a bowl of pea soup? Popular in South Australia (the only State not to have received convicts from Britain). The meat pie in Oz is an institution. You can buy HP sauce here or another called type 'Father's Favourite' and Mcvities bikkies.

Cheers
Ray from NSW

Hi, Steve,

You can have my rain any day - it's absolutely P*ss*ng down in Bristol today. As for your request to Lee for pie and chips, shouldn't there be an order for a pint of "Abbot" or "Old Speckled Hen" with that?

Have fun,

Graham

Hey Ray,

If you have your meat pie upside down in Oz then that makes it the right way up don't it? :)

Seems easy enough to try at home Ziggy. Make it right way up and just stand on your head to eat it! Mark.

Yes you are correct coxy, there is more than one description of a faggot but the faggot you can eat is best described here ;)

I'm surprised no one picked up on another Welsh delicacy, Lava Bread. Not bread at all but slimy green sea weed usually served up with cockles at breakfast, bet Steve was brought up on faggots and lava bread in his younger days.

Cockles and you could buy them in a bag and you
Put Vinegar on them what a meal!!

My personal favourites;
1) Curry smothered chips.
2) Bacon sarny and tea from a layby chip wagon.
3) And if you've been riding in the cold and drizzle for a couple of hours, not much beats a full English breakfast.

I do like marmite on toast but you can not beat sponge pudding with custard.
Thanks.
Steve.
