spark plugs
« on: April 18, 2010, 01:56:15 PM »
The spark plug has to primary functions.
1) to ignite the air fuel mixture.
2) remove heat out of the combustion chamber.
The spark plug ignites the fuel and air mixture in the combustion chamber.
To do this effectively and at proper time the CORRECT SPARK PLUG must be used
and the spark plug must be kept clean and the gap adjusted.
It is crucial to remember that spark plugs CANNOT CREATE HEAT they can only
REMOVE HEAT .
They work as a heat exchanger by pulling unwanted thermal energy away from the
combustion chamber and transferring the heat to the engines cooling system.
The heat range is defined as a plugs ability to dissipate heat.
Thanks.
Reed.

Steve-
I replaced my old plugs (41 years old) with plugs rated 1 hotter.  It's all this shop had.

Big issue, or no?

After running some seal conditioner through,it seemed to start smoking less.  Tomorrow I'll check to see if it just ran out of transmission oil to blow through the right cylinder, or if the seal is actually recovering!

If the seal has recovered, I'll probably change out the plugs, after all the oil I've ran through the right side.

Its a good thing that you have replaced the plugs on the Bridgestone.
Let me know about the transmission oil!
Thanks.
Steve.
