tips for stiffening the frame on a '66 BS 175 ????
« on: August 09, 2016, 05:22:49 PM »
Hi everybody. I am in the process of rebuilding a '66 BS 175 in to a bitchin' brat-style racer. I have everything torn down to bare frame. Unfortunately the motor is unusable because it was seized and then water got down in to the crank case  and sat for years. I don't have the funds nor does my wife have the patience to let me rebuild the motor completely. I'm looking for other powertrain options. Anywho, I was wondering if any of you guys have any tips to help stiffen the frame without adding too much weight. I would like to feel comfortable riding my completed project and not have it handle like an overweight buckboard.

I've been racing a 175 for about 13 years. Well over 130+ races. The original motor mount lugs were broken off when I got the frame. I had some new ones made from square tubing.  The only issue I've ever had is the stock coil bracket cracking and the tube that I added for the rear tank mount cracking. I don't think you'll have any problems ;)
