project bike almost done
« on: April 28, 2013, 06:06:00 PM »
Well I got the buke out of the basement after working on it all winter. Started right up but it seems to not be running all the time on the right cylinder. Carbs have been cleaned. Any ideas? Once it gwts up in rpm it seems to kick in but not running strong like it should. Here are some pics before and after.

Thanks everyone. It has been a fun project. Hipefully I can get the running on one cylinder figuted out without much issue. Hope its not a crank seal or something. Any way to test for a bad seal? The exhasut I made myself. I ended upusing the 2-stroke wizard software. They came out pretty close to what was shown in the bridgestone tuning for racing manual. If anyone has thoughts on the running issue I'd appreciate them. Thanks.

That looks awesome! Did you make the rear seat or is that off a different bike?

The rear tail section was purchased but I made the seat for it. Thanks for the compliments.  Have a few more things to finish up on it but almost there

are the points set good and the condensor putting out a good spark?
my problems have been on a 350, but it's usually a weak spark or shorting of the leads on the condensor.

Would you by chance know what the rear tail section came off of? Or was it like a generic motorcycle piece?
thanks

Spark is really good on both. I am going to do a compression test. I also may not be getting enough fuel down to the carbs. Need to rebuild the petcock I think. The tail section is from dimecitycycles.com I think it is called the brass.

With the two stroke wizard software did it give you angles and cuts and were to weld? Also, how effective is their pipe testing on the computer? I could build a pipe on soildworks in like 5 minutes, but I have no analyses with the student version.

Does it have a cork or brass float bowl? If brass, maybe it has a slight leak. At low fuel demand one side could be too rich to fire well.

The 2 stroke wizard takes into account that the pipe will be curved but builds it straight. I then used a different program thay comes with it to print out the cone templates on paper. I used the stock header for most of the bend so I didnt have many angles. As gar as testing I am not sure. It seems like it does some good analysis but I dont know how you would be sure.

the carbs have brass floats that dont seem to have a leak. I hav3 a different petcock on the way because I dont think the stock one was flowing the way it should. I also checked the float height which seemed to help.  Ill keepnposting as I find things and will throw a video up soon.

Morning,

Back in the 70's I did similar to my BS-175. I used these into the carb cap rubbers, as I had also removed air filter box & metal tubes. Didn't want to leave the carb caps just open.

This one has a 1 3/4 inch end diameter if I understand it correctly. Thats about 44.50 mm, which should fit into the carb cap.

later .. ray

Here is a video. Replacing the condensers seems to have fixed the running on one cylinder issue. Still isnt running great but getting there.

Sounds pretty close.
What did you find out with a compression reading?
Otherwise, maybe check the points gap and timing again?
Are you using a smokeless oil? I don't see any exhaust smoke in the video.

yea i also re-jetted, and that seemed to help. the compression was 110 in both. I didn't look at the spec but assumed that was close. I have been riding it around and seems pretty good. I have never rode another one so I have nothing to compare. the specs say a top speed of 80, but it seems like that would take awhile to get there. Is that how others are. I was looking for something with a bit more power which is why I am going to sell it. I am going to try to find a 350 or a Yamaha RD 350\400. If any one has one of those I would trade as well. I don't see a classifieds area on this site. is there one and I missed it or should I just put it here? Thanks for everyone's help. Its great to find sites like this and learn from guys that know that they are talking about.
