Gold GTR
« on: February 13, 2011, 04:41:14 PM »
Some of you may remember seeing a gold GTR on Ebay over the new year period. Its most striking feature being a particularily fetching, gold seat cover to match its period paint job!!
I feel now, would be a good time to own up to the purchase of this machine. I will be the first to admit it does look rough, but I am sure I can do something with it.
The plan of attack will be,
1- Make the bike roadworthy complete with running engine.
2- Obtain a UK registration
3- Ride the bike and if happy with it, sort out the cosmetics.
I am not after a show winning machine but more of a good usable classic.
One job that might be of interest to others is the de-rusting of the inside of the fuel tank. After much thought,I am going to have a go at the electrolysis option. When I arrive at that job, I will post a before and after picture.

Harvey.

I too remember seeing it for sale.
I would suggest the acid & water method for the tank - show a picture of the tank when you can.
We have older threads about cleaning the tank out.
Good luck!

Old Smokey,

I will take your advice onboard. If the electrolysis method proves unsuccesful then acid it will be and yes I will post some pictures .

I have been through this tank restoration business once before.
Listed below is my chosen method and the running account of the procedures I undertook.
I had very good results with this method.
Hope it provides some useful insight

Harvey.
I tried to reply to your PM, but I got a message back your inbox is full.
I don't know if that's the inbox for PMs here or your email inbox. but you might want to check that out to keep the lines of communication open.
Just a suggestion.
