Rebuilding petcock?
« on: January 06, 2011, 03:08:00 PM »
Need to rebuild my petcock on my RS 200.  The little brass screen on the shorter up-tube has a hole in it.  Is there a way to replace this screen?

If there is such a replacement screen available, what should I use to secure it back on the tube?  I assume some type of fuel resistant adhesive??   Thanks everyone!

Others might be able to offer more detail, but I know my father has purchased fine mesh brass screening material. He uses it for repairs on small outboard engines. Maybe a good hobby supply store would have some? A brass screen could be soldered onto the stand tube.

If you can't find replacement screening, and the hole is not too big, you can fill the it with solder, as long as there is enough remaining good screen to let gas flow freely.  My own preference is to stay away from adhesives for something like this.  Fuel resistance is always a question.

Hi guys, I did a little more googling for info.  I did find a brass filter online that has a crush ring on one end.  It is longer than what I need but it should be a quick fix.  It was made for another bike application.

I guess I could just go with an inline filter and not worry about it.  Some times I get a bit too carried away with keeping it original!  This is the first bike I am restoring. Thanks everyone.
