200 Speedo Set up
« on: March 05, 2021, 06:27:35 PM »
I have seen where you can buy a new speedo that says it is for a 200. When I look at them I do not see the black outer that surrounds them . Like when I see the set up
mounted to a bike. I see used units for sale that have a black surround to it. Is the speedo generic for a 175 and a 200 . There is no detail in the parts catalog or the special light publication. Is it something you have to get off a used unit ? Anyone know the deal here ?

The speedo is the same for all 175- 200 bikes. The black surround is a separate housing for the 200's that does not seem to be in any parts book. If you don't have one, a used one is the best bet.  Some others on here may have figured out a part number or have a used one.

The black surround is in the parts manual (pg. 40-41), and is #22 in the illustrations with part number 3474-8200. A cushion rubber and bracket are also needed and shown in the manual as well.

In addition, the illustrations for the 175 and 200 speedometers look nothing alike and each has a different part number.  8401-8000 for the 175 and 8401-8200 for the 200.

Ok men I don’t know if my copy of the parts Manuel is an old one but it detailed all of that but the speedo set up. So once again thanks for the aid . I had bought a new speedo
Sand I will have to see which one I have. Seems the best way is to buy the complete hook up and then see if the speedo works. Thanks to all .

Apparently, my manual was old also. Those pages moonpup posted were good info to have. The basic speedometer is the same but I had no idea the housing was part of the assembly.

So thanks to Moonpup we are updated ! So I bought a nice used one on Ebay. I am guessing the black should be flat or semi gloss . Can someone confirm?

Scott; My 200RS has an almost textured appearance, and I would categorize it as a semi-gloss.

Mine, too. It looks about the same as the 350 speedo shell. I'd call it a mild wrinkle finish. A good semi-gloss regular paint wouldn't look much different, though, and would be easier to find.

Edit: looking closer my 350 speedo and tach shells are just flat black. Only the 200 looks like a wrinkle finish.
