MAINTENANCE-FREE-BATTERY FOR A BRIDGESTONE 350 GTR.

MAINTENANCE FREE BATTERY FOR A BRIDGESTONE 350 GTR.
I am looking for a maintenance free battery the std battery is a 12N54B.
The maintenance free battery design allows easy installation without the
Worry of acid spills and damage to equipment.
So i could modified the battery box to fit the battery or is there one out
There the same size as the 12N54B.
Let me know.
Thanks.
Reed.

Well Steve I talked to Jeremy at " BatteryStuff.com " he is on the tech help line , we talked about the size and voltage spec using the " 12n54b  " group size as a reference the batts to best consider are the " Absorbed AGM " type . Go to http://www.batterystuff.com/motorcycle_battery_list.html then scroll down to item 298 , then another one is 641 further down . this type of batts are used in a cranking /starter setup , but this should not matter but you can check out more this way ,or call jeremy at 541-474-4421 OREGON
Good Luck Randy

I've just tried to insert a YTX7 battery into the 350 battery tray and it will not fit. It's too wide (2.7" as opposed to 2.36", or 70mm as opposed to 60mm if you think in metric)

One option that I do know of is the Motydesign lightweight batteries (http://www.motydesign.com/4cell_prod.php). I would imagine that the 4-cell battery would be fine for a Bridgestone, even though it is only 2.5Ah vs. 5Ah for the 12N54B. It might be an idea to replace the standard selenium rectifier with a modern solid state reg/rec to ensure that the battery gets plenty of charge, alternatively Motydesign also do a larger 8-cell battery.

I'm sure there are plenty of other lightweight sealed batteries out there.

Replacement batteries that are smaller than the battery box aren't a problem, as you can easily pack the battery in with lightweight packing material like styrofoam or balsa.

For those interested in a sealed maintenance free battery for the GTR 350 I found one that fits perfectly without having to modify the battery box which would be a NO NO!!! Batterystuff.com part no. YT5AL  31.00 delivered due to free shipping. It is a 5AH battery.
Hope this helps.
