Anyone recommend a chrome plater?
« on: May 28, 2009, 07:50:30 PM »
I am restoring a BS7-D, need to find a good quality chrome plater for fuel tank, wheels, etc.
I prefer to rely on word-of-mouth references instead of the yellow pages. (US companies only please)

Thanks
Bob

I've heard good reports about Brown's Plating Service in Paducah, Ky.   http://brownsplating.com/index.php

I've not used them, though.

Thanks for the reply Jeff.  I had checked with Brown's but it's a little much for me right now.  I'm not going for a show room bike, so I can't justify what they were asking.  Thanks again for your help though!

Remember guys, how good the chrome looks is in the prep work. The longer and better you prep the parts, the better it will look......Jim

BS Friends:

Please read the chrome article below, the two main chrome shops both do good work, but in two different levels of show and price.
I think both shops give good value for your money, just depending on what you are looking for.

Both shops exceed the quality of original Bridgestone chrome, I have just posted another chrome photos in the Gallery concerning the 350GTR restoration

Here is the link to the chrome article:

F.Y.I. A platter measured a chrome section on my 350 GTR tank as follows: copper, nickel, chrome at .015" thickness.

I used Brown's this past summer for the project I'm currently working on and the finished product is first rate.  This was the first time I've sent parts out for chrome and decided to use them based on Richard's recommendation and explanation of the chroming process elsewhere on this site.  I understand that they're not the least expensive but I'd probably use them again.

I did this over this past summer when they were giving a discount.   I believe they gave me 15% off.  Apparently they are slow during the summer and give the discount to boost sales.  I sent them 11 pieces, mostly small items, but it did include my rims.  I received the finished products back in one week and they do an incredible job of packing and shipping the parts.

I'd check their web site.  Maybe they have discount sales during other times of the year.

Brown's chromed my muffler for my Sport 90 and frame brace. The finish was perfect. Yes pricey, but the quality can't be beat.
