GTR tank painting
« on: May 28, 2019, 05:45:14 PM »
I've been distracted from finishing my GTR,  but now I want to ride it this summer.
I'm down to painting the tank. Foolishly, I thought my painter would make a pattern of the
paint lines. No such luck.
Does anyone have a stencil or pattern to help me?
I hate guessing and have it wrong
This may be have been addressed already in previous posts.  I searched and was unable to find
anything.
Cheers,
Skinny

i read this posting when it first came out, is it the painted tank ( with two stripes down the sides of the tank )? If yes, then there are decals that can be bought for this effect and not actually painted on.  Basically, to help on the answer, in case my assumption is wrong, what year is the GTR you have?  bsforever

Okay, unfortunately i will not be able to help on  this, but perhaps another member here could. Mine is the 1971 ( all painted ) with the 2 stripes (decals) down the sides, so i cannot give any details. Good-Luck with the project, sorry i was not able to help on this.  bsforever

Can't help with a pattern or stencil but the majority of the paint line follows the crease in the tank above and below the chrome panel. Then a matter of joining up the ends with a nice sweep. Lots of photos in the gallery section to help you get it right. Here's one to start you off.                                            Brian

Further guidance measured on 2 tanks with original paint.   The front paintline sweep ends 15/16'' back from the front weld edge of the tank. At the back, follow the lower crease up side of tank then sweep round to join the top  line keeping an equal distance from the curve on the knee pad. That won't be far off.  The line position does  vary slightly on my two tanks, so I guess the original mask line was hand applied at the factory.

Unspoiled by progress.
I'm so glad I grew up in the 60s & 70s. I did so much stupid stuff and there's no record of it.............Anywhere !!
