« on: June 07, 2015, 03:31:01 PM »
the outer tube nut 4114-9000 on a couple of forks are super tight . I have thrown some heat on them ,gave them a tap with a rubber mallet tightened up the strap wrench as much as I could and they wont budge .also soaked for a week or so with wd40 .any suggestions .I don't want to resort to using a pipe wrench cheers

Maybe try a different penetrating oil and soak longer. Per a suggestion I got on here from skinny, I have been using Marvel Mystery Oil mixed with 20% acetone. Works great for stuck pistons, so might work here.
A word of caution. Don't store this mix in a plastic container. The acetone will soften or melt it and make a mess. Don't ask how I know this. ::)

success I have a old wooden vice which I lay the forks in tightened up over the nut, put a little heat on with the aid of a cold morning and used an old front axle for extra leverage   a couple of taps with a rubber mallet loosened easily this also worked on the ones that were very rusted with no damage

Hi Coxy,
Struth, those are some rusty parts but no doubt there will be some useable bits. The rain must be more aggressive down there. :D ;D :D ???          Brian.

there was water around the seal you could see it boil up when hit with the butane burner .I did have to cut the tube in half to get the bushing etc the only salvageable parts and the drain plug screw was ok on one

No Bert, but they kind of look the same when all is said and done.

I do like the guy's statement in the ad... "I don't have time for tire kickers."  I'd have to remind him that there's only 3 there anyways!   ::)
