Back in 72 when I had my first GTO, the fastest I ever had it was around 103 or 104.  I think it was also downhill with the wind at my back and a semi chasing me!  :o

All I know, is that the front end felt way too light and I never attempted that again. I had visions of a 1/4 mile streak of flesh & blood with a tuft of hair at the end, had something gone wrong!  ;D

I had my 50 Sport upto 35-40 mph - I wasn't game to push it further as I was running in the new cylinder & piston. I'm sure it could be capable of 50 mph with lighter person on it.  It reminds me of a road test on a small capacity bike I read in a magazine in the late 1960s. The author stated that the claimed top speed of 70 mph could be achievable with a rider weighing 56lbs (4 stone) shaped like a bullet with a 40 mph tailwind riding downhill.  With small early Jap bikes I think this may have some validity.

Happy Christmas to all
especially the 'Cheeseheads and Hoosiers'

Hey,
I fit both of those categories.
Born a "Hoosier" and now living in "cheesehead" land.
Merry Christmas.

For the info of North Americans

On the East Coast of Australia:
Queenslanders are referred to as 'Banana benders' (they grow lots there)
New South Welshmen are referred to as 'Corn stalks' (I have been informed) - what this is derived from I don't know
Victorians are referred to as 'Mexicans' (south of the border)
Tasmanians are referred to as 'Taswegians' (? like Norwegians)

Steve
We are going to have a colder than normal and wet Christmas this year - No real Oz summer in NSW as yet

Steve (Reed)
I found this excerpt from the book 'Bingara Run'

The pioneers of the north-west of New South Wales in the 1830s were primarily families or individuals associated with cattle, and most came from
the Hunter Valley. The young men who ventured out to establish new cattle runs for themselves, or their families, were mostly Australian born
from farming families in the Hawkesbury River area. Sometimes referred to as “Currency Lads”, they were better known in the Hunter region as
“Cornstalks”, which differentiated them from the landed gentry. The “Cornstalks” were shrewd and smart bush-men; many founded dynasties that
often included the acquisition of valuable land from others who were perhaps of better social standing, but who lacked sufficient knowledge of the
bush and stock, and as a consequence fell on hard financial times.
