BS 90 Sport Project
« on: November 14, 2012, 09:16:45 AM »
Hi;
      I've been visiting this site for a year or so and I've decided to finish my Bridgestone 90 Sport project this winter.      I live in the far Southwest Suburbs of Chicago and so far I've had good luck finding the various parts I need on Ebay.      And this is how I found Richard's site.
             I got this bike locally a few years ago;  No title, but decent, complete and nearly free!        I managed to get the bike running very well in a weekend or two;   basically just needed to clean up the corroded points and clogged carb and a battery.    The inside of the tank was bad with rust so I just used a plastic bottle as a 'tank'.
         Since then I had the tank sent off and cleaned/sealed/rechromed (did a great job)   along with a couple of other parts refinished.     I found some rust free wheels and new tires....   But I haven't swapped these out yet.

My plan is to finish my disassembly and send off a couple more parts to be rechromed while I repaint the frame and red parts.

Does anyone know a source for a seat cover??   Or do I just need to find an upholstry shop?

The bike has these colorful plastic 'spirals' that are added to the cables?    I think this was some sort of 60's or 70's add on gimick.
But I really like them!    And I would not mind finding some NOS versions.

Thanks...     I know I will have more questions later,  and I will add progress as it happens
Chris

Chris, nice bike. Good to hear from you. The cable covers, I remember puttin miles of those things on bikes in the late sixties-early seventies. I would have to research a supplier. As far as a seat cover , I really believe a local upholstery shop could do you a decent job for a very reasonable price. Make sure he uses naugahyde, which is a brand name of a good commercial vinyl. It really is an easy task to cut the vinyl from your original seat cover using the pieces as patterns after you remove the stitches. Any shop can stitch it up even adding a cord or just a triple stitch. The ones online are overpriced. The only good thing is that they are able to reproduce the suede like finish as on the GTR. I don't have a source for that material. Use the site, not just visit. There is a wealth of knowledge among these BS'ers ;D

Looks just like mine Steve;
            I've determined that mine is a 65' from the serial #.      Oddly,  my chain guard is painted black?
looks better silver, matching the engine.
