Is A Honda CT70 or CT110 Engine A Direct Replacement For An Original Bridgestone

Hello All,

  I am curious if anyone has ever successfully replaced a junk Bridgestone engine with a nice Honda 70 or 110 cc engine.  Still having problems unsticking my Bridgestone Sport 90, so I thought this might be an option to get me out riding.  Thank you in advance for your input.....Mike

I agree with Randy and will show my bias. I suggest you find a Honda 70 or 110 model and transplant a BS 90. It would run circles around the Hondas. Sorry, got that out of my system. Sometimes "unsticking" requires desperate measures. Explore the threads on here to see the lengths some members have gone to to free stuck engines. In my case, I have literally resorted to driving the pistons out of the cylinders of a stuck 350, and while it damaged the cylinders, both were repaired and replated and are ready for use in a motor I am building.

I agree with bert.  You may need to get more aggressive.  The cylinder can be repaired and the pistons/rings are available.  I had to have a friend help me with one of my BS90 engines.  One of us bashed a piece of hardwood on top the piston (with a hammer) while the other pulled up on the cylinder.  Ended up sitting on the floor with feet on the crankcase, pulling up while the other hammered.  Spraying penetrating oil in the cylinder often.  Make sure you remove the cylinder nuts first!  You may want to add heat.  It took a while (two days), but we got it!  Don't give up, Steve

Thank you all for your "support"!  I really want the original Bridgestone engine.  It only has 1400 miles on it, but I am getting a little bummed with how badly the rings have stuck.  I have read so many threads and the lengths some of you guys have gone to unstuck an engine is quit amazing.  I am going to get more agressive and free this engine up......Thank you, Mike
