175 Restoration
« on: February 21, 2014, 08:23:48 PM »
Well I've finally begun tearing down my Dual Twin BS 175.

I've found the frame number   TA1 - 07554 and the Tag   16D 07481.

So I can tell it a BS 175 and it was built in April of ????

How Can I be sure of the year?    I was told it was a 1965.  But I can't confirm that.  Do any of these other numbers mean anything?

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim, based on Mr. Graham Weeks serial number guide ( http://bridgestone.skew.org/serial_numbers.html ), your bike (16D 07481)  was produced in April of an even year.

Since production of the 175's began in 1965 and combined with your lower serial #, I would guess your bike was built in April 1966.

Hope that helps and good luck on your rebuild.

Thanks for the information!

I'm hoping it's ok to post updates like a did above.  I'm documenting the restoration on my blog and will drop the link here when I post updates.

Thanks.

Hi, Tim.

Moonpup is dead right - yours is an April 66 bike. I've posted the full list of all my known 175 serial on this site - go to the Forum / Bridgestone Reference archives section and click on the "Serial Number Guide". If you scan down through the various posts, you will find the 175 serial number list. I try to keep it up to date as I discover more serial numbers, but the list still has gaps.

As you can see 1968 is a bit sparse, since the BS200 was in production by then as a replacement for the 175. Bridgestone did use 175 frame numbers on some of their early BS200s, presumably to use up surplus stocks (175 and 200 frames are identical) but an April 1968 frame would have been numbered somewhere around 33000 to 34000 - way later than your frame number.

Hope that helps,

Graham Weeks
