Tank Cleaning
« on: February 18, 2013, 12:44:42 PM »
Took the tank off the TMX this morning. The PO lost the gas cap and it sat in a shed for the last year.  There was a bit of rust on the inside as well as a bee hive.  I brought it inside since its only slightly warm outside (18 degrees). I noticed i could hear stuff rattling inside so I turned it upside down and shook and shook over the bath tub and tons of just fell out.  Then I got hot water and oxyclean and filled the tank about half full about 6 times shaking furiously and dumping crud and bits of bee hive out.  Once I was sure I got everything out I dumped in a gallon of evaporust, and shook it around coating everything and set it on its side. I'll switch side every hour a few times and post pics of the results.

Here are pics of the first shake, the beehive in the tank, and after the oxyclean.

Evaporust did wonders to my tank! See the pictures in the "How to" section of this forum.

Hap,
I have used evaporust and i like, i have just done a Honda 80 fuel tank and it was bad inside.
And left it in the tank for about a week and it worked out great, i am with you on this one.
Thanks.
Steve.

Hey Steve,

Sorry I have been out of the loop lately. I went to Japan for a month between Thanksgiving and Christmas, then had the holidays, wifes grandmother died, and then a week later her mom died. Been crazy busy trying to get my Japan reports for work done but am now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have all your Suzuki 90 parts still with your name on them. Let me know when someone is around New England who could possibly pick them up for you.

Never used evaporust before to clean the tank because I worried whether it will removal metal particles of the tank itself.

I think I read somewhere that it only works on the rust and not the actual metal making it safer than other stuff out there. Ask the manufacturer if you have any doubt.
