This past December I sold a bike on Ebay to a guy in California. I live in North Carolina and he used U-Ship to find a transporter. The guy showed up in an old UHaul kind of panel truck to pick the bike up. He also had a house full of furniture in the back so he took the motorcycle and stuffed it up against the wall against a bicycle he had thrown a packing blanket over and used one strap to hold it against the bike/side of the panel truck. He told me it was going to take 10 days to get to California as he had to drop off the furniture up north first, swing west and pick up some more furniture before dropping off the motorcycle. The motorcycle didn't have a scratch on it when it left here, but I don't know how it arrived to the buyer. I took a lot of pictures of the bike as it was being loaded to show the condition of the bike and the process this transporter was using to load the bike.
I also used UShip to transport a bike I purchased from Grand Rapids, Michigan to my location here in NC and couldn't be happier with the experience. The guy only hauled cars and bikes and had a great trailer set up for either.
Bottom line, make sure you get the kind of transporter best suited for the bike you're having shipped and go online and look at the feedback from these guys at Uship. They are usually the least expensive but you have to shop for the right service.
Best of luck to you.
