Front Footpeg Mounting Brackets
« on: September 01, 2010, 08:05:57 AM »
Getting all the black parts ready for power coating. My front footpeg mounts are presently painted silver. Were they originally painted black or silver?
Thanks
Mike

From all the pics I've collected off the net over the years, they appear to be silver on the GTR's and black on the GTO's.

Don't know how accurate that is, hopefully someone with more first hand knowledge will jump in and either confirm my observations or correct them.  ;)

I also need to know if they are zinc plated like the sidestand or if they are just silver paint.
Thanks
Mike

I got the kit from Eastwood. It works ok for small items but still trying to get the shinny finish like original stuff. It comes out a dull gray and the instructions say to polish it for a shine but so far no luck, I will keep trying till I figure it out. The kit is 70.00 so it's worth a try.

Hey Mike, glad you found the info you needed. The electrical current being applied might affect the plated surface if its low. I think your kit supplier calls their polish Auto-soft. Like semi-chrome. Some kits have a product that contains metals, they say theirs does not. It's also recommended that once you achieve your desired result, you keep the part polished from time to time instead of using clears. The clears tend to dull the reflective finish back a bit. You might have better luck with a good light aluminum polish instead. Let us know what you find. Thanks,Mark.
