Title: need 350 wiring help
Post by: old smokey on September 10, 2009, 09:14:47 PM
I have a black wire that is dangling and it has no end on it (wire ends with the insulation). It comes out of the bundle just above the ignition switch. The wiring diagram shows it to be a ground for the headlight and my headlight does NOT work. The wire is only about 4-5" long so it can't go far. It would just barely reach the front end of the coil. If all else fails I guess I'll put a terminal end on it and fasten it under a bolt somewhere. Anybody feel like looking on theres to see if they can find out where it goes? Last night I finally modified the aftermarket fuel valve so it will have the proper tube height for a reserve level. I want to get this wire attached before I put the seat and tank back on.

The dangling black wire used to be attached beneath a mounting bolt of the left coil before the terminal end broke off. I overlooked it originally because it looked like just another washer under the bold head. Once I took the insulation off the end of the wire and saw what was missing - that helped.
The bad news is that the headlight still doesn't work, but that appears to be a bulb that died sometime after it was last ridden in 1986.

Good Lord... You've been working on it since 1986???   :D :D

Just kidding! I'm glad you solved your mystery!
