TIRES & TUBES
« on: August 18, 2013, 09:16:12 AM »
I have a HS with shot tires so, i have been searching all over this sight for some info on tires and tubes. I don't know if i should be looking into Richards inventory for tubes or should i be looking online for a modern replacement if there is one that fits. No one talks about the actual tube inside the tire and how to get it out the check it. Also no one has anything posted about tire pressures except Reed's warning with no recommended tire pressures.

I have only found talk about the Avon tires witch i will be doing a fallow up with my local tire dealers to see what they got possibly today, but what have the other people around this forum found for tires to any of their bikes. Any help or recommendations would be nice.

I am in the same boat. My tires (and tubes) are shot. Scrambler Cycles sells what looks to be vintage tires as well as the tubes. When I finally get around to replacing the tires, I plan on looking into Michelin M62 gazelle tires. http://www.mopeddivision.com/michelin-m62-gazelle-2-75-x-18-moped-motorcycle-tire/
good luck

Tires, like oil is a very personal choice, everyone's got their opinion.
My thoughts:  Tires and especially tubes are safety critical items, I wouldn't even consider anything but new tubes.  I'd lean heavily to new tires.  (I must confess I have old, good condition original tires on my 350, as it's primarily for show, not ridden except very cautiously!)

Sizes and pressures are listed in the owners manuals which are available on this site.  Unless you're racing, I see no reason to deviate from what Bridgestone recommended.

Ok that still doesn't answer the question :-\ of where to get new tubes. would a bicycle shop have the size or would I need a certain place that covers that market of tire tubes??? Also if anyone has any names of brands they like please throw them up its better to have a variety of choices to look at.

Any motorcycle shop should have tubes that fit, or be able to get them easily.

Where are you located? Like karl pointed out, any motorcycle shop should be able to get tires and tubes for you. I would think 2.75x18 front and 3.0x18 rear. You could get them from Bike Bandit, Tucker Rocky, Dennis Kirk or search ebay. I only race my 175 and run a Bridgestone BT39SS 2.50x18 up front and Heidenau K45 2.75x18 in the rear. For street there are many brands to choose from like Cheng Shin, Maxxis, IRC. Search by tire size. If you go to a local motorcycle shop they should have a catalog with the sizes you need.

Thank you olds and bsracer that is the info I needed and other people needed.

There is no difference in tubes for racing or street for old bikes.  Newer bikes (anything with cast wheels) normally use tubeless tires for racing or street and don't have to worry about it.

Also do you think the rubber band on the inside behind the spokes is necessary or has anyone made a replacement?

RedRust,
Not sure about the tires, but I would definitely make sure their are good band strips covering the spoke ends to minimize chafing of the tube against the spoke.

Those tubes are fine. I would put new rim strips in as well. Try and find rubber ones as well. Some of the newer "cheap" ones are like plastic.

So far I ahve gotten my rims, rim liners, spokes, tubes, tires, and most anything else I've needed from Here and E-bay. I used the spec sheet in the owners manual and found tires just by typing those spec. into a search engine.

What do you guys recommend for tire sizes in front and back. 300 both front and back or a 275 in front and 300 in the rear. I have I local guy who can get me some good tires but I want to know what you guys have had for experience.
