BS newbie from WI
« on: April 14, 2009, 10:24:59 PM »
Howdy everyone. I'm new to BS and two strokes for that matter besides my lawnmower and weedwacker so this is a whole new ball of wax for me. I just picked up a 175DT for a hundred bucks. It's pretty rough as the tank has been hacked up to use...get this...a sport bike locking gas cap. So I may be in the market for a unmolested 175 tank or make something up. I'm located in Neenah as I noticed a few other members that are in the area not to mention the state. I'm hoping the engine isn't melted as she's seized right now but I loaded her down with PB blaster. Maybe someone has a good 175 engine they wouldn't mind giving up.

Welcome to the world of Bridgestones.
I'm on the other end of lake winnebago.
There's a small chance my brother (in Indiana) might have a motor in some state of disassembly. Let me check.

Welcome to the club!  I live between Green Bay and Appleton and happen to have a 175 DT that I would part with.  It's rough but might give you some good parts.  If you are interested give me a call at (920)864-3342.  Thanks, Bill.

I wasn't sure how active this forum was. Was I finally got some time to check out my newest addition to the garage. Well I hosed it down with PB and it didn't budge. I pulled off one head and it looked fine and then pulled off the other and it was good also. Whoo! I tapped on one of the pistons with a small rubber mallet and it moved and I tried the kick starter with just my hand and got it to fully turn over. It would turn over easy for awhile and then would just lock up. Then I pulled off the jugs and it was fine. I did notice in the left jug that it has a 3/4" crack at the bottom.
So atleast that's cleared up and the bottomend is good. Now to find some good jugs and pistons. I wouldn't mind pulling this engine to rebuild and just tossing in a working one for the time being. Bill I really want to get this thing running so expect a jingle this weekend. I'm debating on running down to the swapmeet in Woodstock this sunday.
