Title: Stafford Classic Motorcycle Show 2015
Post by: ziggy stardust on October 15, 2015, 04:37:07 AM
My GTR is ready for it's first showing at Stafford this weekend, this is the premiere classic bike show in the U.K. and will be attended by possibly 30,000 enthusiasts, wish me luck.

If anyone attending on Saturday would want to chat about GTRs then I'll be by it's side at 1.00pm on the VJMC stand, main hall M57.

Don't be shy.

Stunning restoration Ziggy. You must have spent heaps. I'm sure you will do well.  I would love to attend Stafford and/or Goodwood.  I am off to IOM TT next June. Looking forward to it.
Keep up the good work.

You've done a great job!

Good luck at the event.

Thanks Steve, I'm so proud to have won 'Best Japanese' at Stafford with the GTR, this is a highly recognized achievement that many restorers only dream about, I'm also pleased that the brand will now be more familiar to the classic bike enthusiasts in the U.K.

Hi Lee,    Congratulations on the award, you look justifiably proud, beautiful job on the GTR, she does stand out on the photos .

For forum members, at 1.0pm on the Saturday, we had 5 UK Bridgestone owners around Lee's bike. Lee, Steve, Colin, myself and a new chap from Yorkshire, Alan,  who has just acquired a part restored GTR in boxes, an original 60's import. Probably the greatest 'dry clutch' (or whatever the collective noun might be :D) of UK, BS owners for many a year. Also met Graham (discvalve) at the show. A thoroughly enjoyable weekend and an opportunity to meet (some for the first time), share experiences and discuss our restorations.
           Brian.

Brian,

The collective noun for a group of GTRs is a Rattle (or a fume). Presumably this could also be applied to a collection of owners!

It was good to meet up with a few of the guys on Sturday,

Graham

Yes congratulations on the achievement Lee there was some truly stiff competition for your GTR at that show which makes the award even better, your bike looks better in real life than the photo on here too.
It was a pleasure to meet you and Brian and natter about Bridgestone's, so you better get cracking on next years restoration of another Bridgestone so we can meet up again  ;D GTO - 175DT   ::)

Ziggy
Is that a SWM Trials bike in the background? I have a TY 175 1978 twinshock.

The transformation of your 350 is a real credit to you.

I'm curious Lee, this is the second show I know of that you've used the Bridgestone neon sign in your display. (looks great btw) I know the seller has also been making signs for other motorcycle marques such as Honda, Yamaha, etc.

Have you seen other entrants using these for their displays and if so, has there been a uptick in the amount you've seen from the first time you used it?

Lee, I tried to buy your bike when it was first listed on eBay, but the seller and I could not get together. Better that it went to you as this tale will attest.

No I've not seen a single neon similar to the one I have in the last two years, quite surprised really as they really show off the bike and manufacturer's name.

Well Bert if you had bought it were would we be today? Another GTR came up a few months later from the same importer and better than the one I bought but priced about the same, to be honest this one was so bad I thought I'd taken on too much at one time.

Has anyone bought one of those neon signs recently?  I've tried twice in the last year, enter all the info to purchase, but never get any response.   At least they've never charged the credit card.  I'd really like to have one of the signs for my workshop.

Certainly not in the same place..lol and if it was that bad, now I don't regret not buying as much. At the time he characterized the one you bought as his "best" GTR.  ??? Seems that you overcame all the pitfalls.

This one sold recently on eBay. I'd keep an eye on this seller to see if he lists more or contact him to ask when/if he'll list another.

I heard back from the sign's seller.  His English is not too good, but I think he meant he only had the one sign to sell.
