Bridgestone Racing in Australia
« on: October 25, 2012, 01:32:52 AM »
Attached is a black and white photo of Brian Hindle testing the 'Honey Special' at Oran Park Race Track near Sydney NSW in the late 60s or early 70s. I am led to believe that it was a modified 100 Sport.

Hey Ray,
You might be surprised to learn that the 'Honey Special' still survives  or at least some of it
a friend of mine has it and around 10 years ago when I was still doing some post classic racing on a
Yamaha TA125 I gave him a spare TA motor and he was trying to cobble it in to it but it never made it
back to the track. He's away O/S for a couple of months I'll catch him up when he get's back.
Interesting note, my TA125 was the late Brian Hindle's race bike of 1973 once holding the Australian land speed
record for 50 to 150cc of 108mph and is now back in the hands of the Hindle family and still occasionally
raced by his son Glenn.

Regards, Dave.

Hi Dave

Thanks for the info re the 'Honey Special' You might like to pass this info onto Jim Scaysbrook from Old Bike Australasia as I believe he is thinking about writing a story on the 'Honey Special'. I may be wrong, but I understood the term 'Honey Special' related to Vic Honey who had a motorcycle dealership in Liverpool, a suburb of Sydney.

Cheers
Ray

Great shot Ray. You can see the bike is still using the press frame modified with the original swingarm also still in place. Thanks, Mark.

Paul
There were some 175 DTs competing on the Road Racing circuits in the Eastern States during the late 1960s/early 1970s. They were no match for the Suzuki 250 twins.
