Beautiful bike but why would some one do all that work and use a wrong harley fuel petcock and a poor clutch cable wonder what was skipped in the motor Jeff bar

It's been for sale on UK ebay for a while.  I'm guessing he didn't get much interest there.

This bike IS on the UK eBay auction site and I also have seen it listed before.... just couldn't remember them wanting THAT much for it!  :o

Although $18.8K is a whole lot of bananas to peel, it wouldn't bother me in the least to see the prices go there. It would sure make what I'm pouring in to mine feel more palateable.

This dealer is located about a 20 minute drive from me and as I'm off work for the next couple of days, I might just take a drive down there to have a look. He's increased his stock in the past couple of years by buying up restored bikes from all over the UK and selling them at prices well over what is considered 'the norm'...amazingly though, it's surprising how much of it he sells. Have a look at his website...he currently has a Honda sandcast CB750 for £35,000 ($59500) and a Kawasaki H2C for just under £19,000 ($32300)

This bike was mine ,I sold it last month on ebay. He paid me £5000, hassle free sale.fuel tap worked, don't know what's wrong with clutch cable. But ended up buying another gtr a couple of weeks ago off theif bay ,the write up on ebay is dealer speak with artistic licence, can't remember what bits I skipped in the motor

Just a quick glance at the photos, bike looks pretty good, missing the grab strap on the seat.  The 175HS he's got for £5000 has a smooth seat cover instead of the ribbed cover and the emblem on the side is put on with screws, not rivets.  Just nit-picking, they look good, though. The prices seem a bit of a stretch to me.

Cheers bert, was happy with the price I got.  Had an offer of £5500 but had already had a verbal agreement with buyer. Still have seat grab. It came from pit replica too short.

Hi,
I have been watching that bike with interest too having nearly completed my gtr rebuild, fiction are you up the north east of england because I saw a similar bike on ebay last year, I live not far from you if you do, falkirk.
I'm hoping they sell that gtr for that money because it will only push up the value of my bike, i like the look of that 175 too and also noticed the minor flaws, however they could be easily rectified but i would not even consider it at that starting price
Title: Re: Finally.... A Restored 350 on eBay
Post by: moonpup on July 07, 2014, 04:30:24 PM
....snip..... i would not even consider it at that starting price

Colin... it looks be be a "classified ad" listing with more of a "buy it now" type of price.  I wish it were an auction listing with a lower starting price so we could get more of a feel as to what kind of market value it has.

I also wish it was here in the U.S. I'm curious what $$$'s a fully restored GTR/GTO would generate here. I sorta expect that they would fetch more over there due to their scarcity, the cost to ship bikes and or parts that distance, along with all the associated taxes & fees.

In the long run, we may never know what it sells for. I assume the seller could accept an offer "off site" and then cancel the eBay "classified ad".  ::)

Hi Moonpup,
I don't think that garage does deals, they buy in cheap and sell expensive, I'm sure ziggy could tell you a thing or two about them.
I have had them listed in my favourite sellers in ebay for a long time because they get some really nice bikes in, the prices they have do not reflect prices in the UK as a whole but they will sit on that GTR until somebody does buy at that price, you are quite correct that the GTR is a very rare bike over here off the top of my head I cannot remember if it was 22 or 33 bikes sold, it's not many, that bike there might even be the last proper UK registered bike around.
I was following that thread on broken clutch cases and I looked at your last reply about falling over when kickstarting the bike while sitting in the seat and I have to say I'm 100% in agreement with you, I do not know what you do for a living but if your not a detective then your talent is wasted.
Regards Colin.

Well he may have to “sit” on in for quite a bit, but if he does get $18.8 for it.... more power to him! (and us)

As far as solving the clutch case mystery, I don't know if I'd go that far (haha), but I'd bet more than a few got damaged that way. My detective skills were probably honed from many years in the “retail industry” where employee theft was a big concern. We were not only looking for clues to spot it happening but also trying to be proactive and look for ways they haven't thought of yet so that we could put preventative measures in place to help stop future theft.

BTW.... This current eBay seller is "milking" the $18k UK bike to help in his auction.  :D

omg you found another possibly well overpriced bike, seeing as I already have a GTR I'd be more interested in the Suzuki T500 Hustler with the expansions on it showing in one of those photos, if he wants $10,000 for an unrestored GTR though he might want $20,000 for a decent condition T500  ::)
Well lets hope they all make stupid money it can only be good for us, puts up the value of our bikes and gives the Bridgestone motorcycle brand some great publicity.
Regards Colin
btw I knew you had a bit of the detective in you, catching thieves by working out how they would do it before they knew themselves, very clever  ;D

In answer to Colin's statement about the shop owner who sells classic Japanese motorcycles at highly inflated prices. From what I've been told about him and from what I've seen on his site he allegedly prowls eBay looking for collectable or interesting machines built to a high standard, not always as they left the factory but he doesn't seem bothered about that. He may approach the seller and persuade him to sell away from the auction or may bid late to win the bike. He could then add 100% or more for his selling price in the shop, I've been told this from people who have owned some of his motorcycles prior to him. By doing this he artificially inflates values of most machines as other owner's then decide theirs is worth just as much and may put one up for sale at a similar price.

When I sold my GTR the same buyer then bought a GTO from this guy, it was very good but not 100%. Anyway this guy is a business man and what he seems to be doing is paying off for him, yes some sellers may feel ripped off but then he is increasing the value of quality bikes and putting so many under one roof and they do sell.

Disclaimer..... This is my opinion built on information received and may be correct or could be incorrect. ;)

Like most things, some are in it for the money and others are in it for more spiritual reasons. One side "corporate" one side "purist".

Just adding this link I posted in another thread to this one so that we can have some examples documented concerning the pricing of various 350's around the world.

This 350 GTR is currently available "down under" for $11,750

Don't want to duplicate photos, so here's a link to the other thread that has a pic of this bike....

Nearly $18,900?? Totally nuts, IMHO. That's '73 Kawasaki 900 Z-1 territory, price wise. I don't think at this time a GTR/GTO is worth anywhere near that kind of dough. But if someone is crazy/stupid enough to pay that, more power to them.

There have been two really good survivors on eBay this year. One a GTO the other a GTR. Both sold in the sub $6000's. Not sure if a resto would bring more or less.  ???

Every bike that hasn't been restored is a "survivor". Just depends on how well it's survived!  ;D

The "survivor" thing has been generating some big bucks in the automotive scene recently. For some reason if you slap the "barn find" or "survivor" moniker on a vehicle, the sheep will shell out the bigger bucks.

IMHO, I think it's just a fad/phase that will peter out eventually.  ::)
