BRIDGESTONE 350 GTR BRAKES
« on: November 07, 2010, 09:34:57 AM »
Bridgestone 350 GTR brakes.
I was checking parts numbers the other day and i found out that the 350 used the same brake set up as the 175 Bridgestone.
I find that odd but my next Bridgestone project if i don't use hydraulic brakes maybe the brake setup off the Suzuki T 500.
The older model.
Thanks.
Reed.

You are correct the 175-200 and 350 models used almost the same brake parts, one important difference is:

The brake shoes are part numbers:

7140-8000       175 and 200cc models
7140-9000       350 models

The two part numbers will interchange but note they ARE different brake compounds, where as the 350 lining are made for more speed and weight.

A problem today is many sellers are just supplying what ever version they have for both part numbers.  Beware it you are ordering shoes, make sure you get correct ones.
If you install 350 shoes in a 175, then you will have to "Stand" on petals to make it, sort of stop.  If you install 175 pads in a 350, then the "feel" is also wrong and they wear out FAST.
also they  do not provide the correct stopping power.

Is there a way to visually tell the two part numbers apart?

I have both sets one set new Bridgestone 350 and a used set 175 and i can not tell them apart from the different compounds.
So i would buy from Richard and you would get the right brake shoes!
Thanks.
Reed.

I believe that Honda CB72/77 shoes fit the Bridgestone brakes as well, although I haven't tried them.

I would like to know if the brake shoes fit the Bridgestone GTR or GTO.
Thanks.

Well, one of my friends has several CBs. He previously had a couple of BS175s and he has used the Honda shoes in the Bridgestones and vice versa (it depended on what fell to hand at the time, he had a fairly messy workshop). He hasn't mentioned any difference in brake feel or power, but he isn't racing.

The Honda and Bridgestone (175) shoes are visually identical and fit in exactly the same way.

The Bridgestone 175 and 350 shoes are similarly interchangable, so I would say that the Honda shoes would fit the GTR/GTO. I have been meaning to track down a worn out set of CB shoes (because they are cheap and readily available), have them re-lined with Ferodo Green Stuff or similar high-performance material and see how they go in my GTR, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
