What's up everyone. I am new here. Just bought what I believe to be a 1964 Bridgestone bs 90. It looks a little different than the ones I see when I Google the bike. I don't know how to decode the numbers on the bike and motor. I believe the rims have been changed and alot of parts are missing. Idk if I should put $ into restoring it or make it a parts bike. It runs and drives great. I like the bike alot. I have 1 picture. I will take more tomorrow.  Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

This is a rare one - a 4 stroke Bridgestone.  Also known as a 'Pup'  ;D
BS 175DT, BS 50 Sport x 1, BS 90 Mountain x 3, BS 90 Deluxe, BS 90 Sport x1, BS 60 Sport, BS 90 Trail, BS100 Sport.

It does look like a Honda with the tank lol. I have the original tank but it's really rusted and leaks. That is good that it is rare, it might be worth putting money into then. I really like the Bridgestone bikes and can see myself owning a couple of them. I just don't want to put a grand into a bike that will be worth 500.

You've got an early 70's Honda CL100.  This site doesn't have any manuals for that.  There may be a few members here that have seen one over the years, but probably don't know a lot about them.  There are Clymer manuals on ebay that might help.

This is the serial number plate on the right side of the frame. Does anybody know how to decode them? Could it be possible it is a Honda cl100 ?

The KO on the headstock indicates a first year model of a Honda.  Visually, the engine is a duplicate of my Honda SL 125, although as a KO model this one will be a 90 or 100.  Probably a 100.

Could be a Honda prototype disguised to look like a Bridgestone. Bridgestone was the big sales leader in the 90 cc class in the 1960s . So we  can assume Honda, an automobile company that was expanding its motorcycle production would camouflage its prototypes to look like the popular Bridgestones of that time

On a different point, see the sideways top view photo above. Anyone struggling to find a replacement handlebar for a GTR could do worse than fit the Honda 125 type bars shown above. They are the closest shape match I can find on the net, are they the same 7/8'' diameter. Anyone tried it ?

If it were a Bridgestone, the serial number 12S indicates July, 1965 premix standard, trail or mountain.  Here's the link to a thread on serial numbers.  The second page has a list.  Good luck, Steve

Brian,

I have a first year Honda SL 125 and I compared those bars with the ones on my GTR.  The Honda bars are the same diameter but they're about 2 inches wider, have less rise, and don't have as much pull back.

The bars on the CL or CB 100/125 may be better suited than the SL bars.  The bars in the picture don't have a cross brace like mine do so maybe the street bike bars are closer in shape to the GTR.  I have to assume the bars in the picture, or maybe the whole bike started as a street bike.

Hi Rowland,               You are probably right, bars I have seen on the net were just labelled Honda 125 but I guess they would be street bars. Closest match I can find, rise
is about right but a bit lacking in pull back and bend down on the ends. Haven't been able to compare them in the metal, just from photos.
