BRIDGESTONE BS 90 HELP
« on: October 24, 2012, 10:07:31 PM »
Hello, New here and excited to be a new owner of this motorcycle and member of this group.
Serial number on frame, number is being front tank on the frame.
Does this tell me what year this is?
(  KD 002592  ) is there...

I do have a bunch of questions, but I would rather chat with someone about things instead of getting all this stuff online here and making a mess of this otherwise wonderful site.
Hope someone would like to help out.
I believe I can get this on the road again with your help.
Thanks,
jay

Hi,

There should be an alloy plate rivetted to the frame just behind the brake pedal pivot. THe serial number on that will start with "12" , followed by a letter, folled by a 5 or 6 digit number. If you can read that number it will identify the year and month of manufacture. If the plate has been lost, the engine number on the clutch cover is similar in format and will give the month/year of manufacture for the clutch cover, but remember that the engine might have been built and held in store in the factory before being fitted to a bike - and the engine or cover may have been changed since anyway.

If you search the BS50/60/90 Talk section of the site, there is a Serial number checklist on there for all three models which will tell you the date for your bike.

Hope that helps,

Graham

well I found the plate you mentioned. It shows 12D 001650
and the number on the case cover shows 12D 001650

I was reading the page that is explaining the way to determine the manufacture date.
just really I am unable to make that accurate decision.
This certainly is a very low serial number.
Are we talking about April of 64 or earlier?

Also going to clean out a gas tank.... Are there any tricks that are sharable?
I am going to do my usual and throw some broken stone chips in there and then the river stones...

A 517 key

I have noticed 3 wires connected to nothing...they are the female type ends
and one red with fuse and it is the male type....
every other wire is connected.....

This is where I got my info:

(   http://bridgestone.skew.org/serial_numbers.html   )

Well Mark and Graham thanks for the hello....
I have some things to work out here and hope to be successful.
Are we allowed to exchange phone numbers on here or do we share emails?
I have someone with knowledge behind this project, so I am not totally in the dark.
just took a pic of the wires. the three green wires go to the speedo/headlight...I know there is another name for that. my guy told me but I forget...All I know is on the back of a match pack.

Also took pics of the three numbers for others to see...

Welcome to the site Jay. Yes that would make the manufacturing date April of 64. Your number is lower than the previously known number listed. Good shape for a 49 year old bike.

The numbers being that close lets you know the motor is the original one  to the frame.

Jay, as far as testing your bike, you can jump the ignition wires by finding the proper wires in your diagram. Any plug wire will work. I have stuck a metal pin lengthwise into a broken coil wire to work temporarily. I know how it is waitin on parts, even if it's only a few days. Hope this helps
