how do u remove throttle cable from carb?
« on: May 26, 2011, 02:01:16 PM »
I want to replace the rubber carb cover on my sport 90 w/oil injection and have seemed to come to a point where I am seeking advice. The choke cable came off fairly easy at the handlebar, no problem there. The gas line can come off easily at the petcock, no problem there. But......when I unscrew the round throttle connector to the carb and pull it out is connected to a round insert with slot that has a metal spring inside and jet. I am assuming the throttle cable needs to come through that slot, however the spring needs to come out along with the other brass thing that goes into the round insert? Is there some procedure to make things easy to remove throttle cable from carb that I am missing here? The throttle cable is connected to the oil cable under the bike so I dont think you disconnect throttle at the handlebar as the connection is too big to go through the rubber carb cover.

Once you have the slide pulled from the carb you can push the slide towards the cable to compress the spring. The end of the cable should hopefully be visible. Slide that end out the groove in the side of the slide then pull the cable out. Its the kind of situation that sometimes requires a third hand.

does the spring need to come out since the cable is inside?

The spring doesn't have to come off. You can feed the cable under and through the spring.

Huuuummmm.....
This should be interesting.
Hap is in New Hampshire, scrambler (Kevin) is in Wisconsin, and Steve Reed (reed) is in Virginia.
I'd say that's a mighty long reach for anyone............
I'm in Indiana.....maybe I can reach in to help......I might have to stretch a little.
 ;D

The new rubber cover is in place. My third hand neighbor stopped over. Only cost me a few beers! Then we proceeded to totally dismantle a 71 Suzuki 90 to the frame!
