I think on a big track like Willow Springs (2.5mi) a 15/40 or 15/39. Like I said I don't have much current data as the bike has blown up everytime out in the last two years (that's nine pistons with holes in them!). I have pretty short pipes which makes it peaky. Tomorrow I'm racing at our local sports stadium Qualcomm. They have a 1mi track mapped out and I'll be running a 13/43-44 setup to try and keep the bike in the powerband. Unless your bike is making a lot of HP, it's hard to pull gearing you think you can run. I was always following the "bigger gear on the countershaft and smaller gear on the rear wheel" and the bike just wouldn't pull it. One year at Sandia NM my friend suggested I go extreme on one end of the gearing to see if the bike would pickup. I ran a 13/42 on 1mi track and it was night and day different. Next year at Miller in Utah I dropped to a 13/40 and the bike ran it's best. I think this track is close to 2.4mi but with twice as many tuns as Willow.

Paul, thanks. I am going to start with a 16/38 and see what it will do on my test track I-59.

so whats the deal with these performance pipes there seems to be a few guys looking but all want prices..... I am also interested in some perf pipes for the 175, and would like to get hooked up with a few of the racers and run some track time when i get the BS back together. The engine is heading off to Riches taylored porting to get some Stellar porting and power making done. I can't wait to get this bike on the dyno to get her tuned in.
