Title: Saddlebags
Post by: OldSwartout on July 03, 2018, 04:05:04 PM
I made a new addition to my 350.   I bought a pair of the 60's saddlebags along with brackets for a 50,60,90 (only ones available at the time) from E-Bay.  I've got them mounted as shown using a homemade mounting bracket.  Does anyone have experience with these?  The lid mounting and latching seem a little sketchy, but maybe that's just me being paranoid. I've lost a couple side covers off my 350 due to my own carelessness, and many people have lost the toolbox covers of the 175/200 high pipe bikes.  I'm just curious if I should put some kind of tether or other mechanism on them to make certain they don't fall off.

Nice job on the panniers, they look period. I know of the type you've fitted but am not personally familiar with them.

Think I would be more concerned with the rear end vibration that our bikes seem to suffer, IE, would use plenty of rubber washers on the mounts (you may have done). The rear end latch type do benefit from a being under tension when closed. Do the lids have a rubber seal inside to provide this.  A simple thin bungee type tether certainly wouldn't do any harm if you are concerned about losing the lids.                                                       Brian.

I added Bridgestone Decals to the vintage saddlebags on my 350GTR, complements of one of my daughters and her Cricut cutter.

Looks good Karl,
Will you be delivering Christmas presents down my way? The bags would serve a good duty. Have a great holiday.
Later Mike

My Santa suit isn't warm enough.  Maybe if I get a red snowmobile suit...

Have a Merry Christmas!
