BS 100 Rear Dampers
« on: May 27, 2012, 03:02:10 AM »
Hi Guys
First post so be gentle!!!!
I've got A BS90 DELUXE AND A BS100 SPORT IN PRETTY SAD CONDITION.
I going to start on the 100 first to restore it. I used to ride these things when I was a kid so I'm having a lot of fun doing this(I am old???).
This will be the first of many questions I'm sure.
I've dismantled the rear dampers and found they are not operating very smoothly with very little damping.
Apart from replacing them has anyone worked out a way of rejuvenating the damper.
I realise that they are not "rebuildable" but I know years ago blokes used to tap a hole into the body of the shock to drain and flush them out and then refill with fresh oil and block the hole off. This is assuming the shaft seal is good.
Cheers

bloke100,
Welcome to the Bridgestone site, i have refilled the dampers with fresh oil in the past.
But give Kevin a call at Scrambler Cycle he is a member on this site and there is a good
Chance that he can help you with some used rear dampers on the 90 and 100.
Thanks.
Steve.
PS check the members and send him a e mail.

Hi Reed
Well I had a go at refilling the oil today and it worked great.....I had nothing to loose.....just got to get a couple of small o rings to seal the screw in the filling hole.
The oil that came out was black watery crud.
There is even a bit of damping on the down stroke. The upstroke damping is great.
Cheers
