Title: Condensers and points plate
Post by: Kenneth Pagel on November 27, 2019, 12:15:45 PM
Two part question: 1) Has anyone used Kawasaki 900  Z-1 condensers as a replacement for the GTR stock condensers? Looks like I'll have to solder the coil wires to the front of then to make it work (see photos).

2. The 4 screws to mount the points to the mounting plate on mine are totally knackerd ( to use an across-the-pond term), to the point of being unusable. I tried the screws form a Kawasaki Z-1 plate; they are the same diameter, but will only go in a thread or two (GTR screws JIS?). SO, I'll need replacement screws OR a complete mounting plate that has good hardware, new (Richard can supply?) or good used.

Thanks in advance!

1) Yes you'll need to solder the "coil" wires to the condenser

2) The original screws are JIS and are M4 x 7mm w/.75 pitch. Modern screws have a .7 pitch, so you should be able use them if you just tap out the threads on the points plate.

     nysz1b,
Looks like your GTR was already fitted with a Kawasaki 'inverted' type condenser. The original BS condenser has the attachment bracket reversed so that the fork that holds the cam lubrication pad points upwards towards the soldered connections. This puts the soldered connections on the outside of the mounting plate.  Kawasaki also used this type of condenser and they are readily available. Here's a link to an ad showing what I mean :-       https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/391928964720?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=391928964720&targetid=568475987444&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=1007000&poi=&campaignid=1669190354&mkgroupid=67214011400&rlsatarget=pla-568475987444&abcId=578896&merchantid=118950809&gclid=CjwKCAiA_f3uBRAmEiwAzPuaM8xYexpR8apwibkA09WW4U51WAlYLvc2W6AdA0bX011lVuxkmH1BVBoCDKsQAvD_BwE (https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/391928964720?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&itemid=391928964720&targetid=568475987444&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=1007000&poi=&campaignid=1669190354&mkgroupid=67214011400&rlsatarget=pla-568475987444&abcId=578896&merchantid=118950809&gclid=CjwKCAiA_f3uBRAmEiwAzPuaM8xYexpR8apwibkA09WW4U51WAlYLvc2W6AdA0bX011lVuxkmH1BVBoCDKsQAvD_BwE)
Instead of soldering the incoming white/black coil wires to the condensers, I extended them and fitted the old condenser terminals to the ends. These are now attached direct to the appropriate points together with the connectors from the condensers. A simple mod that saves soldering direct to the condensers (and can damage them) and makes future condenser changes much easier.                                                         Brian.

I removed my condensors from below the points and mounted them next to the coils. I used condensors from a 80s Toyota landcruiser Petrol as it had a suitable bracket. If you need, I can find the part number for you.

Just wanted to make a post of what i use on my 350, just needed a very small squeeze on the condensers to fit them in the cut out on the plate ( and i do mean a very minimal squeeze to make them fit) https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Condenser-for-Kawasaki-KZ900-KZ1000-Z1-21013-035-Made-in-Japan/163435645627?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item260d860abb:g:Je8AAOSwrQ5cFs6X&enc=AQAEAAACUBPxNw%2BVj6nta7CKEs3N0qWUqd9d6N%2FVDqre7qhWJ29wV9taDoFzWizwGXINtgG976d01hSYitJw1NbIaIJK0Hd%2Bm2dlLJmkuXW9a4FIlU3WLQQgYsHwepWy9q9lz8VwAzoSnJ46U3EcUgm3RfeV2NPH944ugNrOL6JzBPZ%2BZE2k6bs6RySapj8plVTJVkbHaaqaa6otuQ1PAL1iKvF9BL9%2FbKfPemZJGJ7ps2BOMoM8Qb1BtrAOm8RRFXhdL%2FseNb1prQmU9S32mUfUI0nEN3%2FGWUkEg2f7hsqLlQveA3tbZVFPj2%2FZOB0Qi04T%2BlNOIHA7N8lGLLFHOvzKqOCWpOh8djeVpmmvyEK8rEj1Q8T3iclHBbhStP7taFzyfHQRtrZSHA5zmRH0halTguUEZfJSYoiYUavAezw8X%2FwXOMBnyN0y6EUec5djHmEOZLcrQ36ZTG9pZP%2F1JCoZ4jfU2eFPuI3m3xUH5rVjqeUJlGCbN%2Fz28lLFwkRDHXrEjF8%2B06vrfIY69UN1%2Fy6UYkH9Zu8DmYUW65SIQUPzJnhN3vLJ0mohm1qbKZtmT%2FHmLFSmkdjlPhdeRwOB3OwVs9%2BeJowFcObCvAkdB6%2BPrRqbPUya6%2BW9OZBdy0g5UCmLGvUx2EpVkKg3g292XhJ%2FS%2FDH92sQn%2BVLlNfj2QWdSiSld%2BB3vRlZZHn28Ma4x1dWtQYKipJMaDyiDovyjFUuVSlQrP7Stex89R%2BjjO2XfsVghij%2BA1wwQASm8dWLAbjv31amFsGjOQ60gtxAgfexn4pYBrI%3D&checksum=16343564562788f32fd3c2344903a2cd15f6e9b80143&enc=AQAEAAACUBPxNw%2BVj6nta7CKEs3N0qWUqd9d6N%2FVDqre7qhWJ29wV9taDoFzWizwGXINtgG976d01hSYitJw1NbIaIJK0Hd%2Bm2dlLJmkuXW9a4FIlU3WLQQgYsHwepWy9q9lz8VwAzoSnJ46U3EcUgm3RfeV2NPH944ugNrOL6JzBPZ%2BZE2k6bs6RySapj8plVTJVkbHaaqaa6otuQ1PAL1iKvF9BL9%2FbKfPemZJGJ7ps2BOMoM8Qb1BtrAOm8RRFXhdL%2FseNb1prQmU9S32mUfUI0nEN3%2FGWUkEg2f7hsqLlQveA3tbZVFPj2%2FZOB0Qi04T%2BlNOIHA7N8lGLLFHOvzKqOCWpOh8djeVpmmvyEK8rEj1Q8T3iclHBbhStP7taFzyfHQRtrZSHA5zmRH0halTguUEZfJSYoiYUavAezw8X%2FwXOMBnyN0y6EUec5djHmEOZLcrQ36ZTG9pZP%2F1JCoZ4jfU2eFPuI3m3xUH5rVjqeUJlGCbN%2Fz28lLFwkRDHXrEjF8%2B06vrfIY69UN1%2Fy6UYkH9Zu8DmYUW65SIQUPzJnhN3vLJ0mohm1qbKZtmT%2FHmLFSmkdjlPhdeRwOB3OwVs9%2BeJowFcObCvAkdB6%2BPrRqbPUya6%2BW9OZBdy0g5UCmLGvUx2EpVkKg3g292XhJ%2FS%2FDH92sQn%2BVLlNfj2QWdSiSld%2BB3vRlZZHn28Ma4x1dWtQYKipJMaDyiDovyjFUuVSlQrP7Stex89R%2BjjO2XfsVghij%2BA1wwQASm8dWLAbjv31amFsGjOQ60gtxAgfexn4pYBrI%3D&checksum=16343564562788f32fd3c2344903a2cd15f6e9b80143
