I need to pull the oil pump and could use some advice for this. It leaks about everywhere, mainly because the bolts are quite loose. Any thoughts on taking it off and then reassembling it?

I am going to try to hijack this thread -
I recently went through engine rebuild #2 after detonating a piston.
Unfortunately, I got it running and then a week later, had to get back surgery. SO no riding for me for at least a few more weeks.
I am noticing that the oil pump is leaking a bit of injection oil onto the cardboard I parked it on.
Should it have a valve in there of sorts that stops the oil from entering the engine? I am worried about oil building up in the engine while not riding it. I hope it is stopping at the pump and coming out at that point. The drip is coming from the bottom of the pump. Not sure the source but perhaps the rubber feed line.
I can't bend over to look at it more closely until I heal more.
Has anybody installed, or would there ever be a need for a petcock of sorts to kill the oil feed while parked for long term?
Are these pumps prone to leaks?

Typically, they don't leak, either to the outside or into the engine. It is likely the rubber inlet hose or the gaskets on the banjo fitting or the banjo itself is cracked.
Having said that, I think my 175HS may leak injection oil into the engine while sitting. The last couple of times I've started it, it smoked heavily for a few miles from the right side. I don't think it's the rotary valve seal leaking transmission oil into the crankcase because the level isn't high enough for that to happen. There was also injection oil in the carburetor throat the last time I took the side cover off.
Maybe someone else has some different experiences or ideas to share.

In my experience, the modern, high performance 2S oils are extremely searching and will leak for fun :-[ ;)
I've had the pump off my GTO 2 or 3 times this summer, the last time to finally 'sort it' and I noticed the other day it's still got a drip from the carb cover drain. What do I have to do to keep the ******y stuff inside the pump ??, And yes, I have found it in the carb throat and the starter plunger chamber. Should be worth trying for anyone with a time siezed cylinder.
Getting a bit cold in the workshop to investigate what's going on, so it's got a takeaway tray underneath until I feel motivated !! Brian.

what kind/size rubber hose are you guys using? I have a stock piece of rubber hose but it may be the problem. I'm also interested in size to see if there is an in-line shut off valve I can install for when the bike is not in use.

FWIW some info I gathered -
Oil line can be fuel line from a motorcycle or lawn mower shop. 3/16" or 5mm non-reinforced. Anything that's intended for fuel will last a long time with oil.
