After more Cheap Tricks, it's back together
« on: September 21, 2014, 08:49:17 PM »
Ok, it is finally back together. I took it for a ride last week and it ran pretty good, but i realized the oil tank sight glass was leaking like a bitch. Sigh. I tried to get ahold of Richard for a replacement (mine was cracked and the lens was pushed in slightly) but no luck (email or phone) so..........

i ordered one online for a yamaha SX. $14.99+ $1.00 shipping. It is the right diameter, but 6mm thick instead of the original 8mm. No biggie.

No more leak!!! I put the red dot on the outside of the glass just for effect!
I also lost the rubber plugs for the carb covers and was just too damn cheap to buy replacements.
I got these at Lowes for $1.04 for a package of 2:

1/2" plastic plugs that fit snug and look pretty good!

So now it's back together AGAIN:

The tires are Michelin Gazelle Moped tires. I like em! The paint is Dupicolor  BFM Toreador red metallic and duplicolor silver metallic. I used 2K clear from eastwood ($27.00 shipped but worth it). It is a pretty good match, the headlight assy. is the original but kind of faded so it's hard to tell- But hey! close enough.
She started backfiring on the right cylinder today when i rode it and running on just the left. Not sure what is going on there, but probably since i havent cleaned out the carbs in a couple years, they may be gunked up. It still has mixed gas and injector right now too, so that may be fouling things. Never ending.......................

Very nice bike you have. I took my '66 out the other day for its first ride in 39 years. What a blast and thrill (and stares).

Thanks for the compliments! They definitely get looks from passersby. My right plug was fouled. I cleaned it and switched it with the left side and and THAT side misfired. After I filled the tank with fresh gas, it ran sweet on both sides with the right amount of smoke. it is a little doggy, but it has kinda low and uneven (90 right, 80 left) compression. I will probably pull the top end this winter and see whats what. But overall, since it hasn't been on the street for 20 years, it goes pretty good. Hard to go from the sv650 and the RD400 and ride it without downshifting when I mean to upshift though............... :D
