For anyone,
Can the petcock tubes (handle main and reserve fuel from tank) on a petcock be replaced? I was thinking of soldering mine as they are split lengthwise; however, am wondering whether they might be unscrewed or pulled out somehow and replaced.

I replaced my tubes for the same reason. They were a tough pull, but they did pull out and mine were not soldered in, just a good tight friction fit. As I remember the tubing I found at the hobby store was about .005 larger dia. than the original tubing. It did not take long though to chuck it in a drill and turn that .005 off and I gave it a tight fit as originally.

Yes, it was rigid brass tubing. You see it in hobby stores and many of the hardware stores.

Thought I'd post this for those individuals looking for a quick/temporary fix for split tubes on their petcocks.
Today I removed a 175 petcock that was on my 350 GTO and when I got it off, I noticed there was something odd about the fuel intake tube on it. The previous owner (or someone) had slipped clear plastic /rubber tubing over the entire length of it. I wasn't sure why they would do that, but after I cut it off and saw that the brass tube had a 2" split down the side, it all became clear to me.
So there ya go, if you're looking to get by until you can give it more attention, you can always try this. ;D

I had the same thing.... put new tubs in and used yamaha plastic screans off there petcock... now i have that setup... ;D

I had a similar problem with the fuel petcock on the 175 I'm putting back on the street. A piece of brass tubing from a hobby shop took care of it. In dealing with the filter screen, I used a piece of brass screen I purchased a while ago on an order of various items from McMaster-Carr. I happened to notice they had brass screen, so I ordered a 12" x 12" piece of 100 mesh for $7.48. It makes perfect screen for fuel petcocks and oil tanks. It is more than enough to last the rest of my life. Next time any of you order something from McMaster, it is worth getting a piece of brass screen just to have on hand. Plus, they have just about any mesh in many different materials, including stainless, at very reasonable prices. I used to go to the auto parts store and scrounge around until I found a lawn mower or auto filter that had a big enough piece of screen that I could cut up and use.
