Title: 175HS Exhaust alignment
Post by: Sye on January 30, 2017, 03:56:16 AM
Is there some sort of secret or am I missing something in getting the silencers lined up? No matter what I try, I'm a good 15mm too far out on the right and 20mm on the left.

If I get them both in the correct position to attach to the frame posts then the silencers press into the air cleaner rubbers. It seems that the only way I can get them to fit is to put spacers on the frame stand-offs.

Or am I just being too particular?

Thanks,

Sye

NO !!    You're doing a proper re-engineering job.      I'm finding the same with the GTO high pipes, attachment points don't line up as well as expected. Never good to install these parts in tension or under stress, something will eventually fail. High pipe conversion was not one of BS's best engineering achievements?, a bit of a lashup really but they do look good  ;D . If you feel she needs the spacers put them in.

To be fair to BS, the high pipes themselves are a work of art,   no CAD or computer control in those days, all machine tool presses made by hand and eye. Not surprising the pipes don't line up accurately.                                                                                         Brian.
