Title: Hole on bottom of Crankcase?
Post by: mconner on August 04, 2015, 10:22:32 AM
Hi all,

I went to gas up my Tora this weekend to make sure it still ran and noticed the gas pouring out the bottom of the crankcase cover. After quickly shutting of the fuel and sticking a bucket underneath, noticed a hole about the size of a nickle. This isn't the drain plug -- the drain plug is still there, but is another hole a little farther up (toward the handlebars). Am trying to attach a picture.

Have never noticed this before and have looked through the parts diagrams, but can't identify what I need here. Any help would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks

No worries. It's a drain/vent for the carburetor, and is a factory design. If you pull the side cover plate off you will see how it's designed.

As for raw fuel pouring from this location. It simply appears that the carb float is stuck open, or a fuel supply hose is cracked and leaky. Try rocking the bike side to side. This might free up the float. Otherwise pulling off the side cover may prove to be a wise move to pinpoint the problem.

Thanks Kevin. Is one of those things I have looked at a million times, but all of a sudden (when something was going wrong), it looked foreign. Tried the rocking, still was pouring out.

Will roll up the sleeves and take a look inside the thing this weekend.
