Hi guys, yeah I'm actively looking for a bigger rear sprocket , I will have a chance to look at other Japanese stuff from that era at my local motorcycle show in March as there must be other bikes with a similar/same rear hub, I don't really see a Japanese manufacturer making a specific rear sprocket for a handful of bikes like the GTR, more than likely Yamaha and Suzuki had the same set up on a bike or two but hopefully more teeth.
I'd never thought on just dropping a tooth off the front and that might actually be the way to go plus it will be cheaper so thank you for that idea too.

I've got a larger sprocket on one of my GTO's that I won't be needing/using that I'd be willing to sell. Problem is, I don't know when I'll get the time to pull it off. I'm also not sure how many teeth it has, just know it's bigger than the one on my parts bike.

The first pic is the stock one & second is the larger sprocket.

Also, sorry Steve for contributing to the thread hijack, maybe the moderators can move these over to a new "Sprocket" thread.  ;D

Yes, I am in total agreement, a new thread about sprockets would be great!  It's all good though.

I've gone ahead and started this thread so that the discussion of rear sprockets may be continued and we can then all go back to oooh-ing & ahhh-ing Steves' beautiful bike!  ;D  :D  ;D

This restored GTR is now for sale.  Regrettably I have to sell this great motorcycle to fund another project.  Bike runs even better than it looks, if that's possible. If interested, please email me at sdsuppa@sbcglobal.net
GTR is located in Ohio, about 20 minutes east of Cleveland.
I will not ship, but will help out as much as I can on my end if you want to send a shipper to pick it up.
Thanks.

That's a shame Steve , all that time and effort is going to be wasted with somebody else driving your bike  :o
No matter I do know why , I too sell on to fund the next project and envy the guys who can just keep them all.

I still like the appearance of this bike better than any I have seen. No offense to you Red guys.
I wish I was not in the middle of my GTR or I would seriously consider this one. Once again, Really Nice Job!, Steve.
Good luck with selling.

I checked out PBI and Chris products on the web, but could not find anyting that would suggets they do custom work. I have also spent some tme trying to find an available replacement for the 350 sprocket with more teeth...can't find anything...
Paul, have you had sprockets fabricated by these companies? or were you able to use a stock item?
As Graham mentions, the rub is the size of the 350 center boss...

Hey Bert,

Looks like it only took a couple of years to respond! It's been a long time since I've had any sprockets made. Early on I thought I had some made by Sprocket Specialists then from PBI. I thought Sprocket Specialists already had a pattern and I think I ordered very small rear sizes (34-36). Funny thing is I never used any of them. For one the 34 is so small the chain hit the hub. I ordered sprockets from PBI by sending them a used sprocket for a pattern. I ordered a 37 and 39 if I remember. Later I ordered a 41 43 and 44 for the rear. Here is a list of the gears I have for the 175 racer.

Front
12- from some other bike, fits the BS spline but I've never used it
13- from some other bike, fits the BS spline. I use this one at short tracks with 40-44 rear
14- BS stock front. I use this one with many different rears depending on the track
15- BS stock front. I do use this once and a while at longer tracks
16- BS stock front. I tried this but never with much results
17- I think this is a Honda sprocket. Never use it
18- from some other bike. Never use it

Rear
34-36- Sprocket Specialists (aluminum). Never use them. Too small for bike to pull
37- PBI (aluminum). I use this one sometimes
38- BS stock rear (steel). I use this one sometimes.
39- PBI (aluminum). I use this one sometimes.
40- TabLoc (aluminum). This can with the bike. Made in the day. I use this one regularly.
41- PBI (aluminum). I also use this one regularly
42- BS? (steel). Also got it with the bike. Have used it on occasion.
43- PBI (aluminum). Use it at very short track.
44- PBI (aluminum). Can't recall if I've used it.
46- BS? (steel). Never used it
50- BS? (steel). Never used it
52- BS? (steel). Never used it

Just a note that one tooth smaller or larger on the front sprocket is like a three tooth change either way on the rear. Main thing is if the chain will fit. Four teeth more on the rear might require a longer chain.

Rebel Gears in Crossville TN (931-788-1617) made a 40 tooth for me.  I ordered a solid sprocket and they made a mistake and drilled the lightening holes in it. Sold it to me for half price ($31.24 + 6.70 shipping). I did not get the center hole dimension correct and will have to take it somewhere and have it enlarged about .25mm. I will blame my slide calipers! Very nicely made of a hard aluminum alloy. The six bolt holes line up perfectly and I will give them the correct center hole measurement and they will keep a record of all the info to build these in their system.

FANTASTIC job Steve.  You'll probably need sun glasses when you ride it because of the reflection off that great paint and chrome job.  Really a great looking bike and all the time you put into it was well worth it.  Harry

Sorry guys I just noticed there is a thread for rear sprockets. Is there a way to move my above post to that thread?
