How I spent my winter!
« on: March 16, 2014, 06:13:19 PM »
I just finished my latest project.  Below is a youtube link for a video of the completed bike.  Let me know what you think or I'd be glad to answer any questions.  Thanks.

Well done CL-100, I think it looks fantastic and I like the video as well, nice finishing touch.

I agree, well done ! It's so nice to see something other than 350's receive such detailed attention. Don't get me wrong, I love my 350, but the smaller Bridgestones need love to.  ;D

BTW, those tire have got to be reeaaallly clean for you to risk the wrath of the wife.  :o

Nice!...you've had a productive Winter. Really cool little bike and I agree with Moonpup, the longer I hang around this site the more interesting these non-350's become to me. Since I really am not up to snuff on the smaller bikes, could you please post year and model. Thanks

Surprisingly, the wife didn't go crazy when she saw the bike on the carpet.  That area is our guest room, in the basement, which is adjacent to my workshop and another lower level garage.  And yes, the tires are real clean.  I've had the bike outside since recording the video, so no more trips on the carpet.  I hooked an external fuel tank to it and ran a 20:1 premix through it to sort out the carb settings.  I still haven't put any gas or oil in either of the tanks yet.

Bert, the bike is a '71 100 GP.  They made these from '69 to '71.  I think it was the natural evolution of the 100 Sport.  I had a blue '69 when I was 15 and was originally going to chrome the gold tank it came with and then paint it blue.  Once I found that tangerine tank I decided to go with that color as it was a '71 color anyway.  That saved me a few hundred dollars.

Thanks for all the nice comments.  I've always liked the little 60 Sport and have felt the 175/200's were up and coming.  I currently have a GTO and a GTR, so this project seemed like a natural to me.  I'm currently collecting parts to create a mounted 350 engine on display, but I'm also considering trying to build a road racer.  Got to while to sort it out.  I'll be doing a bathroom remodel for the next project.

This winter makes us Arizonans feel guilty. Realy sympathise with you guys in the Winter. I grew up in Indiana, so I've been there.
CL-100, you are apparently a project junkie!...good luck with the bathroom, I've spent the last couple of days, as I say, toilet wrestling...
Long story, but not fun.
Thanks for the model/year explanation.

Forgot to say that at one point I contemplated making a coffee table out of my GTR. Laying it on its left side with cutaways to show rotary valves and the primary drive. Glad I came to my senses. I probaly have enough parts to make a display motor, so please post some pics if you do it!

I've been restoring a 1968 Sears 124 5V (Gilera)

It is the first motorcycle I legally drove on the road.

It is running and I just got the seat back from being upholstered.
I hope to have the tank, fenders, and side covers back this weekend
from the painters.

As soon as I get it back together I'll post some photos.

It is not a Bridgestone but it is one of my memories.

I remember those Sears bikes very well and just happened to read a listing on one in Ebay today.  As a kid, I used to carry a newspaper ad of them and their minibikes around in my back pocket so I could dream about having a bike some day.  I really love the Bridgestones but there are a few others that will always get my attention too.  I have a Taka 100, a Honda SL 125, and a Honda GL1000 right now and if I could find a good Yamaha AS2C 125, I'd have that too.  Harley Baja 100's always cause me  to stop and pause and if I could find a decent copy of my first bike, a Yamaha 60 YJ2 I might have to beg the wife to add just one more to the fleet.  Must be part of growing old and remembering those good old days.

Good luck with your project and I look forward to seeing pictures when you're done.

Again not a Bridgestone but this is what I restored through the early winter months.

A Kawasaki MT1B from 1974. :o

This version came out a few years later Mike, the Parnelli Jones model was the first edition and had outer springs on the front suspension and a smaller front fender and different graphics after that it's virtually the same.

Nice job on the Kawasaki!  Not a Bridgestone, but brings back a lot of memories!  I had a blue one just like it when I was a kid!  I think it was a KE 75.  Great little bike to learn how to ride.  Currently working on two BS90's.  I hope to return to stock condition.  Expecting 8" of snow today!  Still a bit of winter left in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Nice job on the Kawasaki.  Very nice setting too.  Ziggy, you are very productive and the work is first class.  Looking forward to seeing your progress on the next GTR.

Hey Gene, the Kawasaki MT1 was produced in the early seventies with the MT1A, B,and C. This changed slightly in 1974 to the KV75 with a few improvements and new decals. It kept the same 75cc two stroke engine with a centrifugal clutch and three speed gearbox.

Being 75cc and two stoke it is quite quick, it will wheeeeeeely in first gear. :D
