BS100 performance tuning
« on: July 10, 2012, 08:13:12 PM »
I have a TMX100 I intend to modify as a short track race bike (1/4 mile banked oval).
I've read and re-read the tuning guide, and it all seems to be pretty straight forward modifications. I would appreciate any input about the mods mentioned in the manual, i.e. dont do this/do that, or any gotchas from those who've already been through this.
my experience on this track on many other bikes tells me that I should just get to 3rd gear and rev it out, as there is not enough runway to get to fourth gear.
any input on sprockets would be helpful. (btw I am 220+lbs). so i need a little bit of torque to get going, and need some to maintain speeds and not decelerate dramatically when the course slope changes (40+ degree banks)

I had a TMX 100 years ago, really liked the bike.  Did a bit of hill climbing, a couple of MX's, and lots of aggressive trail riding with it.

Only trouble I ever had was I broke the frame where the pivot for the swing arm is welded to the main tube of the frame.  Looked like a design weakness.  Bridgestone replaced the frame under warranty, but if I was going to ride one hard I'd look at beefing that area up a bit.  Back in the early 70's the 100 TMX had about as much power output as any unmodified 100cc, more than most, as my occasionally selective memory indicates!!
