splitting the case
« on: April 22, 2012, 12:01:35 AM »
Another fancy newbie question:

The case DOES NOT want to split!

I hit it all the way around with a rubber mallet & am now thinking I might should either soak it in something or perhaps apply heat?

I doubled checked to make sure all of my screws are out. I think I'm just dealing with years of rubber gasket//crap build up.

Any suggestions? I really want to get this sucker apart tomorrow!

Thanks

Ihpengram,
You need a crankcase splitting tool its designed to remove crankcase halves on two stroke engines etc.
I will post a picture so you can see what i mean.
Thanks.
Steve.

Ihpengram,
This is one of the crankcase tools i use to split the crankcase halves without damaging the cases.
I don't have a engine to show you to split at the moment i just have a crankcase the puller bolt
Would go against the end of the crankshaft and you would press the crankcases apart.
Rules out the risk of damaging the crankcase halves.
You can buy this tool on E bay or any good motorcycle shop that deals with tucker rocky or
KL.
Thanks.
Steve.

Thanks for that info on the puller Steve. I just realized that I have never split the cases on a two stroke engine before! Just Hondas, BSAs, Trumpets and Harleys.
