Top End Rebuild
« on: April 15, 2012, 07:51:07 PM »
I am looking into a Sport 90 that has been sitting for many years.  The cylinder was unbolted from the case and the piston is frozen to the cylinder.  I have not seen the bike so I don't know what all is damaged.  The most likely reason that I can think of for someone to pull the cylinder would have been running out of oil and siezing the piston.  That is just a guess though.  The bike is a 4 1/2 hour drive each way.

Can the cylinder be bored on one of these?  Are oversize pistons and rings available?

Outside of that about how much would a piston/cylinder/rings kit cost?  Are they available?

My objective would be a driver restoration to use around the campground and for grocery runs when we take out our camper.

Dave, directly contact Richard of this site and see what he has for parts/pistons.  He has a ton of Bridgestone pistons .

The piston must have become stuck in the cylinder from sitting so long.  A lot of guys start to unsuccessfully to remove the cylinder and there the bike sits.(for years)

He may have some 90 cylinders laying around also.  You may want to price some of this out before you negotiate a price on the bike.

Not a bad idea to price some parts before you drive 4 1/2 hours one way.
That could be a long drive home if it's in worse condition than you expect - and drive home with no bike.
