Title: Chrome air filter pipes + BS90 Battery dimensions
Post by: RayK on November 03, 2010, 05:08:08 PM
Hi all
I have 2 new chrome air pipes 90x45mm (from the air filter to the rubber carby cover)- does anyone know what model these are for?

Also the dimensions for the battery on the BS90 Steve Reed kindly provided are the same as the BS50 i.e. for a 2 Ah battery.  The Parts catalogue says that the battery on the 90 is a 4Ah.  Are the dimensions different - the space in the 90 frame seems taller than the for the BS50 Sport.

I would be grateful for any help
Cheers
Ray

The battery on my Bridgestone 90 trail 1965 works the brake light and the horn and that it.
So unless you are using signal lights that battery will work.
Thanks.
Steve.

Hi,

The battery I use on my BS90 is a 6N4A-4B. (Yes, it is bigger all round than the BS50 Sport battery). It is a standard battery size used on several small Yamahas as well (50cc an 80cc).

Over here (the UK) I ask for a Yamaha FS1-E battery, as everyone knows what that is. (The FS1-E was the 50cc sports tiddler sold here in huge numbers in the 1970s - every spotty youth started their riding career on a "Fizzie").

I hope that helps.

Many thanks

I will check with the local auto shop where I can order bike batteries.  Yes I have read lots about the Fizzies even saw the the Top Gear guys doing road tests and speed trials on TV here - I think the best they achieved was 53mph.
The bikes in the late sixties popular with learners were <100cc - usually Honda 90, Suzuki A100 and BS 90/100 and the Yamaha 80/100 singles and 100 twin.

I will check to see if i can get that battery for my Bridgestone 90.
The chrome tube on my Bridgestone 90 is 110X45mm.
The FSIE Yamaha i had did about 50 mph great bike!
Thanks to disc valve for the battery spec.
Thanks.
Reed.

Ray,it looks like your air tubes are most likely for the 90cc oil injected models. Part number should correlate to 6241-5020. Only way I know to positively confirm would be to check with someone who can measure the part against this #. I do not personally possess this part. I have made this determination purely by the process of elimination. Including the Rockford models, there are a few stray #s where your parts could still fall in. Let me know what you find please.  Thanks,Mark.

Reed, thanks for posting the measurements of your air tube. Ray, Steve's 90 Trail is a non-oil injected,pre-mix bike, since the diameter is the same and the filter further away, the tube should be longer than the injected models. If someone has a 90 oil injected model or can measure a #6241-5020 tube, this will help further confirm or eliminate the application.  Thanks,Mark.

Thanks Rocketman

My BS 90 Mountain and Deluxe are both non oil injected 1967 models.  The Original air tubes are #6241-5000 and measure (38x106mm).

I think you are correct and the tubes I have measured as 45x90mm. The 90 Sport (6241-5010) and the Oil injected models (6241-5020) are most likely different but I don't have the dimensions.

So as you state could someone measure the tubes on the BS Sport or Oil injected models to help clear up this mystery.

Regards
Ray

On the subject of batteries, you may like to beware of a possible problem when buying a battery for your BS50 Sport. Over here there are two very similar types of battery available - a "6N2-..." and a "6N2A-..." number. They are both listed as replacements for Honda Expresses and suchlike, but one of them is about a quarter inch taller and won't fit the BS50 battery carrier. Problem is, I can't find the full battery code numbers now, but the correct bettary comes with two flying leads with female snap connectors, whilst the "wrong" battery has a plastic block conector..

I tripped over this problem a couple of years back (my local supplier didn't realise the two types of battery were differnt in size until I showed him) but it's worth checking that anew battery actually fits before buying it and filling it with acid.

Hi Disc valve

You are correct about the BS 50 batteries.  I managed to buy one code #6N2-2A which fits (2 Ah) the BS50 frame - I also bought a gel battery (4 Ah) which is taller.  Both made in China.
