srpackrat49 - I was wet-sanding original paint off my "66 175DT last night and found white paint under the original Flamboyant Red as well as under the black paint on the secondary oil tank (the one bolted to the frame).

Love the gear bangin' story. Reminds me of my youth and makes me wonder how some of us made it to the age we are. Sure did tempt fate back when we were not only invincible, but darn near bullet proof.

Hi dcr,
Just a slight digression, is the primer white or is it a very pale fawn colour. Have seen the primer used under candy apple red paint described as 'Champagne'. I'm going to be painting soon , so would help to get right finished colour which is slightly transparent and relies on the primer for the total effect.    Brian
Unspoiled by progress.
I'm so glad I grew up in the 60s & 70s. I did so much stupid stuff and there's no record of it.............Anywhere !!

Under the red was mostly gray. Under the black was where I really noticed the white primer.

In answer to your question about Blue 1971 GTRs - yes, I've just ridden here on my own Blue GTR in 1971 scheme. BUT....

It was originally a standard Candy Red 1968 model, but I changed the colour scheme when I restored it back in 1999.

I've never actually come across a genuine original 1971 bike in Blue, but I've heard runours that such things did exist. It looks really good in Blue, though. If Brsidegstone didn't do Blue ones, they should have done!

I have a  GTO that is  listed on the headstock as 008610 with a production date of 12/70. The Rockford tag under the seat says 21108531 and the engine number is NA1 08592. It has a pearlescent white with black tank and the  one remaining side cover on the oil tanks is is white as well. I've got a  supposed '71 coming in in a couple of weeks and I'll report back then.

Well, things are getting a little more interesting here.

The difference between DL's 9730 & bsforever's 8753 is close to a thousand. If they ran these in one continuous production run, that's about 500 more gold GTR's built than previously thought. However if they ran a couple hundred GTR's here and a couple hundred GTO's there, then that puts us back to ?????

We need more white GTO owners coming on board to help fill in the blanks.

Hello. I am Jen s Jessen from Denmark. Bought a Pearl White GTO in september here in Denmark, but it came from the US many years ago. On the headstock is stamped: NA1008600

On the right side on the Rockford badge it says: 21L08533. Hope that can help!

I Wonder: Why is there two different numbers?

On Ebay Road Rash Cycle Salvage is selling parts that he lists as coming of a 1971 GTO  3/1971   engine #009682 and frame #009790. No tanks or side cover are in his store for it though.......Rod
