Description: Lining up at the pit gate, waiting to take my first ride on the hill at Damascus Md. I think the fall of 1971. I'm still working on nailing the date down,it could be a bit later. Damascus hill was around 140 ft.to the upper timing lights and about 160 ft to the top,(The big bikes needed shut off room). This hill was super steep at the top and the smaller classes could not get over it till the mid 70's. Bikes ran one at a time against the clock. It was everything you could do to stick the front wheel through the light beam just to get a time on the clock. Check out the cool fork brace and the stainless front wheel shield,(hard to see). After the grueling struggle a guy puts himself and his bike through to get to that upper light beam, you don't want to take any chance of the beam missing your skinny tire! The wheel shield is just a little extra insurance. The wheel shield can be better seen in other pics of this bike on this site. I've also added a lot of pics in the members gallery of this bikes restoration.
