I'm preping my frame for refinishing, and one of the tasks was to remove the rubber motor mounts. They were hard and badly deteriorated. I had made press and backup tools for the other motor mounts which worked quite well, so I thought it would be simple to remove the mounts from the frame.
WRONG!!! Turns out there is a lip around the bottom of the holes in the frame which prevent you from simply pressing out the old mounts. I ended up using a small sharpened punch to carefully cut through the outer metal ring of the old mounts and then yanking the remains out with vicegrips. Not very elegant, but quick and effective as long as you don't damage the holes in the frame.
If someone has found a better way to remove these lower mounts, speak up, it will help the next person who attempts to replace them!
