Shock and seat mounting hardware??
« on: July 08, 2013, 10:17:46 PM »
BRT-GTR (Brian) had a question on hardware configuration for mounting the rear shocks, both in the front and rear positions.  I have pictures of how I've always done it on my bike, but now that I look closely, I'm not sure I've got them arranged right.

Does anyone know, or have an untouched bike for reference on exactly how the spacer, lift handle and washers are supposed to be arranged for the left side seat and shock mountings?

FWIW.....the grab/lift handle on my GTO is mounted the same as the handle in the first picture.

Hi all        Still finding my way on this site, Just found the photos. What I really need to know is the length of an original spacer, nearest 0.0000001mm will do , just a rough guide to make one.  No , length to nearest mm measured in situ will be fine.

Sorry Brian, I guess I forgot to put the spacer measurement in my post.
Original spacer measures 19.80000000mm or therebouts.

The only way I have ever been able to arrange the hardware to my satisfaction has been as shown in the pictures in my previous post.  It would appear that BS meant well, but didn't get the numbers exactly right when they arranged the hardware on the left side of the bike for shock relocation.  The right side works out just fine, but it appears to me they didn't get the handle in quite the right place.

BS,
Thanks for that, Had a GTR in the late 60s but cant quite remember the configuration. Your picture seems right, I guess the handle thickness replaces one of the washers in the rear position (No innuendo intended)

BS,
I'm a bit late seeing this one through but have been working on other parts of bike.
The way I see it, there are 3 washers in use in both positions - good, no loose ones to get lost when the shock is moved. I will make the spacer 20mm(shock eye width) plus the thickness of one washer say 2.5mm I.E.  22.5mm.   That way the lift handle should  stay in the same position regardless of where the shock is and not be pulled in as it would be using the standard 20mm BS spacer (which I haven't got anyway) with the shock in the forward position . Not original or rocket science but will satisfy my engineering standards. Must get a life. :D
Thanks for help   Brian the Brit

Brian I might have a spare, will check when i get home and if i have I might even re-plate it for you, I'm sure i bought a new spacer then later bought a handle and it had one taped to it.

Colin,
Thanks for the offer, only trouble is, with a nice new shiny spacer it will show up the rest of the bike ;D,but could use one.
Bert, You're right there but then again having a BS is a life, what more do you need?   LOL.................   Don't answer that.
