Engine rebuild parts advice
« on: March 23, 2019, 11:59:56 PM »
Hi Guys,

After a 600 mile return ride to Albany from Bunbury and return in Western Australia, my gearbox has started to make more noise than it should. Long story cut short, I am sure I have dropped the gearbox bearing behind the clutch basket.

My question is, while I have the motor apart, what parts are recommended to replace? Obviously all rubber and gaskets will be replaced as standard procedure.

Any other advise I welcomed and I will continue to update the forum to “keep it alaive!”

I'd  replace the output shaft large bearing as well, this one has a hard life. Also check the needle bearing on the right end of the output shaft, I've found cracked rollers in those before now.  Any other issues with the box should become apparent when you strip it down.
Also check the crank seal in the right disc cover and replace if the sealing lips are not soft and pliant.

I have an engine with play in the shaft bearing behind the clutch. Did you find the engine vibrates badly above 4000rpm ?

Unspoiled by progress.
I'm so glad I grew up in the 60s & 70s. I did so much stupid stuff and there's no record of it.............Anywhere !!
