Need A Good Way To Get Oil Up To My Injectors For First Start
« on: August 25, 2013, 03:25:10 PM »
Can anyone let me know a good procedure for my first start-up.  I have the oil tank filled and oil exiting the hose and entering the oil pump.  What procedure have you had the best luck with for getting the oil from the oil pump up to the injectors and ready for firing?
I thought I could just kick the engine over until I saw the oil come up to the injectors, but I didn't have any luck.  The oil injector lines are clear so I could easily monitor my progress.  I have checked the on-line Service Manual, and it wasn't much help.
Any help would be great!

Thanks!

I always use plenty of lube during assembly, so the engine's well oiled before starting.  I pre-mix about a gallon at 20 to 1 for the fuel tank, start the engine on that, then hold the throttle actuated pulley on the oil pump wide open as soon as it starts.  This plus a bit of throttle should move the oil along to fill the injector lines within a minute or or so.  Once I'm sure the pump is working I add regular gas to the tank to dilute the pre-mix.  This will run a bit heavy on the oil till the next fill up, but that's not really a bad thing.

This is how I do it.

I fasten a piece of oil pipe to an oil can filled with the two stroke oil I'll be using and the other end to the oil pipe detached from the pump by using a longer oil pump banjo bolt (or improvise) secured with washers and a nut. Now using the oil can just pump it gently though the pipe then re connect to the oil pump. Start the engine and open up the oil pump to increase flow and push any air out.
